Liquid Mercury II

A square mirrored stainless-steel relief whose dense surface ripples evoke the movement of liquid mercury. Light and color fragment across the waves, creating a dramatic, swirling reflective field.

Artist Statement

Liquid Mercury II expands the idea of a metallic “liquid surface” into a bold, square composition. The mirrored stainless-steel sheet is shaped into a deep relief where irregular folds push outward and collapse inward, forming a dynamic center of visual gravity. The surface behaves like a metallic fluid caught in rapid motion—concentrated turbulence at the core and wider flowing currents toward the edges.

The sculpture reflects the surrounding environment in fractured, shifting patterns. Cool tones, warm hues, and flashes of color enter the ripples and scatter unpredictably. Each step around the piece redraws the landscape on its surface, making the work feel alive and responsive.

Seen at scale, the artwork reads like a topographical map of a liquid terrain. Up close, the micro-reflections reveal infinite smaller compositions. Liquid Mercury II invites prolonged looking—its movement is optical, not physical, yet it creates the sensation of fluidity suspended in time.

1/1 Wall Installation

Display on a large, neutral wall so the edges and relief can be fully appreciated. Even, soft lighting at 3000–4000 K enhances the metallic clarity without harsh glare. Ideal for galleries, hotel lobbies, private collections, and architectural spaces that benefit from a powerful reflective centerpiece.

1/2 Relational Works

Pairs naturally with Liquid Landscape, Liquid Mercury I (if part of a series), and other relief-based stainless-steel works. Together they form a collection exploring fluidity, reflection, and topographic deformation.
