Monolith

A tall mirror-polished stainless-steel column whose rippled surface transforms a minimal monolithic form into a shifting play of light and reflection. A vertical sculpture that behaves like a standing wave in metal.

Artist Statement

Monolith reinterprets the timeless totemic form through the language of reflective distortion. The piece begins as a precise rectangular column—350 × 170 mm in footprint and rising to 1200 mm. Instead of remaining static, its polished stainless-steel skin bends into soft undulations that animate the form from every angle.

The reflections across its surface behave like moving currents. Sky tones and warm ground colors fracture into abstract patches, creating a flowing visual rhythm along the height of the sculpture. The structure remains upright and architectural, yet the skin feels alive, as if shaped by invisible forces.

Standing before the work, the viewer becomes part of its shifting geometry. Their reflection stretches vertically, breaks apart, and reforms as they move, making Monolith a dynamic dialogue between body, space, and material.

1/1 Installation & Placement

Best displayed free-standing with 360° visibility, allowing the vertical ripples to read as a complete form. Neutral lighting between 3000–4000 K emphasizes the interplay between sharp edges and fluid surface.

1/2 Columns & Totemic Forms

Works particularly well in galleries, atriums, and modern interiors where verticality and reflective distortion can anchor the space while complementing other sculptural elements.
