Artist Statement
Pedestal II continues the exploration of the pedestal as both support and sculpture. Built as a 100 × 48 × 48 cm rectangular block, the work holds the clarity of an architectural volume while its mirrored stainless-steel skin is pushed into a deep, all-over relief. The planes buckle and swell, compressing reflections into a tightly woven pattern that wraps around the entire form.
The contrast is deliberate: a pure geometric core enclosed in a restless, fluid exterior. Depending on the viewer’s position, the pedestal reads either as a solid, monolithic object or as a vibrating field of broken images. Any artwork or object placed on top becomes part of this dynamic system, its presence echoed and fragmented along the sides.
Pedestal II stands comfortably on its own as a sculptural object, yet retains its ability to serve. It demonstrates how an element usually meant to disappear beneath artworks can instead become an active participant in the visual narrative.
1/1 Placement & Display
Best suited for galleries, museums, and curated interiors where it can be viewed from all sides. Allow at least 0.5 m of clearance around the piece. Soft, even lighting at 3000–4000 K reveals the relief without overwhelming the mirrored surface.
1/2 Functional Sculpture
Used as a base, Pedestal II visually integrates the displayed work into its reflective skin, creating a single, unified sculptural ensemble rather than a separate object and support.
