The Lustrous Throne

A sculptural chair built from mirror-polished stainless steel, where liquid-like surfaces meet a precise, architectural silhouette. The reflective shell folds into a functional throne, balancing fluid geometry with strict linear form.

Artist Statement

The Lustrous Throne investigates the boundary between sculpture and design. Built from mirror-polished stainless steel, its faceted body ripples with distortions that behave like moving water, while the chair’s outline remains sharply architectural. This contrast between fluid skin and geometric structure turns a functional object into an optical event.

The reflective surfaces fracture the surrounding space into shifting patterns, making the chair appear both solid and animated. As the viewer moves, the piece reshapes itself, absorbing walls, lights, and silhouettes into its liquid geometry. The black seat and backrest cut through the reflections with a calm, matte presence, reinforcing the dialogue between movement and stillness.

The work positions the chair not only as something to use, but as a sculptural anchor within a room—a statement object that transforms the environment through reflection.

1/1 Interior Placement

Best positioned as a focal object within contemporary interiors, galleries, or design-forward spaces. Neutral surroundings allow reflections to read cleanly. Soft lighting at 3000–4000 K preserves the clarity of the metal and the depth of its distortions.

1/2 Functional Sculpture

Designed to be fully usable, yet remaining visually dominant. Works particularly well within collections of functional art, where its reflective mass can interact with neighboring pieces.
